GNS: 2024 Edson Trade Show

Posted on:

GYPSD staff from local schools as well as central office had a great time connecting with their community at this year's busy Edson and District Trade Show! With over 3,000 in attendance, GYPSD showcased the many wonderful learning opportunities available through Grande Yellowhead schools.

Interactive displays highlighted program options, extracurricular, athletics, and learning options at Niton Central School (JK to Grade 9), Fulham Community School (JK to Grade 6), Ecole Pine Grove Middle School (Grade 6-8), and Parkland Composite High School (Grade 9-12). The high school's music students entertained while budding cosmetologists applied their skills in decorating excited youth with glittery designs.

Parkland and Pine Grove staff continued the tradition of providing yummy treats to the crowd - cotton candy and popcorn - while Principal Ripkens and his team met with future students about the transition to either middle or high school campuses for September. Both Principal Marshall from Fulham and Principal Benson from Niton were on hand to chat with community members about the unique learning options at their country schools. GYPSD reps from mental health initiatives, BEST and Wellness Navigators, were also on hand to explain their programs and HR staff were busy promoting current career openings at the division including teachers, support staff, bus drivers, and journeymen plumbers and carpenters.

To add to the excitement this year, the Transportation Team joined in the fun by bringing in a yellow school bus complete with flashing lights and a fully functioning horn to the delight of many - from early learners to smiling teens! Transportation Director Van Neck was on hand to talk to many upcoming new riders and potential new drivers along with members of her staff. Also in the bus, were boxes of story and picture books provided courtesy of GYPSD that she and Communications Director Gilks handed out in support of the importance of literacy in learning.
