GNS: Niton's Jurassic Park Adventure

Posted on:

Mr. Meier and Mrs. Maskell's Grade 3/4 class at Niton Central School, had a transformative week recently when they were teleported to Jurassic Park. Students walked into a classroom full of dinosaurs, including their very own robotic dinosaur, Betsy. Students worked hard on becoming paleontologists through many cross-curricular lessons in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, and Physical Education. Students continued to learn about Rocks and Minerals in Science, while also learning about Alberta's roots in paleontology in Social Studies. They participated in a virtual field trip to the Royal Tyrrell Museum and learned how to navigate and document a dinosaur dig site that was set up in the Science Lab. Students had a great time carefully uncovering 3D printed dinosaur bones, that were created by students in the Grade 9 class. In Language Arts and Art, these young paleontologists created new dinosaurs with descriptive paragraphs and clay sculptures. They also worked on their descriptive words while trying to figure out what was wrong with a sick triceratops, by digging through dinosaur waste. Math had students designing and buying items and dinosaurs for their own Jurassic Park. Students also put their cooperative game skills to the test with Jurassic Park Tag in Physical Education. It was a fun-filled week full of learning, excitement, and dino fun!
