GNS: Professional Learning Communities

Posted on:

How does student data analysis, the School Continuous Improvement Plan, and the Division's Priority on Teaching Leadership and Excellence work together to move student learning forward? At Crescent Valley School the Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) take the school's success plan to action. Teachers have one hour of PLC embedded in their schedule each week. They work in their grade level professional learning community to collaboratively analyze student work. The overall goal in PLC work is to improve student achievement. Teachers identify students' strengths and areas for targeted instruction, create differentiated teaching plans, employ assessment practices that help learners identify where they need to focus, and use high-effect teaching strategies. Grade 6 teacher Tracie Clark shares, “PLC time has enabled me to collaboratively assess student learning and target areas for growth. In turn, it has directly affected my teaching practice. Common assessments, crosscurricular activities, and Indigenous infusions are just some of the positive outcomes from my collaborative work
in PLCs."
