GNS: GYPSD Lights Up the Season!
Posted on:Congratulations go out to the school teams of Parkland Composite High School and École Westhaven School for not only participating in this year's Santa Parade in Edson - but each winning! Westhaven won for Best Youth float and PCHS won for Most Original.
GYPSD also had a yellow bus lit up to join in the fun.
Westhaven entered the Edson Santa Parade for the first time this year. The float, designed after the story Snowmen at Night, was a collaborative process between staff, students, parents, and community members. The main feature of the float, four giant snowmen, was designed and built by staff and students at the school. With cold weather warnings, it was decided that only adults would ride the float for the actual parade, however, staff was excited to see so many of their students in the crowd enjoying the float from the streets with their families. École Westhaven would like to thank their School Council for donating the candy to hand out, the Canadian Parents for French Association for the use of Bon Homme, EMMBYS Contracting for the donation of the trailer, The Ramada, Octane Controls, and Providence Oilfield Services for the donation of materials for the float, and Auto Motion Audio for the use of the shop to assemble the float in their heated garage.
A dozen staff members contributed to the building of the PCHS float throughout the weeks leading up to the parade. Different departments contributed their expertise and many students were involved in the prep work and building of the float. Their inspiration was based on the Edson Chamber of Commerce's theme, and their upcoming musical, The Dr. Seuss Show. Edson trustees Fiona Fowler and Jocelyn Pettit joined the performing arts class on the float and sang carols while many PCHS staff and student volunteers walked with the float and handed out candy. PCHS staff and students love the opportunity to get out in the community and spread holiday cheer. This is the 5th year that Parkland has participated in the parade and their 5th trophy - way to go!
A big thank you goes to the Edson Chamber of Commerce for their organization and coordination this wonderful community event!
