GNS Evansview Students Build Community One Kindness at a Time
Posted on:Evansview School works to develop community within the school so everyone feels welcomed, cared for, respected and safe. They believe that students are able to achieve and succeed at higher levels when they feel these emotions within their school. Building community is one of the goals in their School Continuous Improvement Plan. So how do they do this?
Evansview students are learning about the importance of helping each other by ”filling someone's bucket” - an idea written in a story for kids.
Students receive a recognition ticket for their efforts and then put it into the Big Bucket in the office. Principal Randall makes random draws and when a student's name is called, they are invited to the office for a special treat or prize. Once the Big Bucket is filled to the top, all the students receive a special treat or surprise!
On January 10th, students were invited to wear their favorite jersey, and then after their weekly, ‘Friday Picnic’ in the gym, everyone was invited to a surprise celebration with an outdoor dance party with popcorn and juice.
Whose bucket will YOU fill today?
