GNS: PCHS Community Days

Posted on:

Parkland Composite High School staff and students were thrilled to participate in Community Day for the first time since 2019. This initiative was started pre-Covid and the school staff are excited to reintroduce these days into their school calendar. Community Engagement is a focus for PCHS staff, as well as a main priority of the GYPSD Board.

Community Days are an excellent opportunity for the PCHS community to get out and interact with the broader community of Edson and the surrounding area. Their goal is to give back in a positive way. Through community service projects, PCHS students develop valuable skills in the area of ethical citizenship, which will serve them through high school and beyond. There was seventeen different community service activities planned, involving all of their staff and students. Activities included partnering with Mary Bergeron Elementary and École Westhaven students; pumpkin carving and games at Parkland Seniors Lodge; building picnic tables for Surprise Lake Cam;, helping cook a community meal; FireSmart maintenance; community clean up, and many more!

PCHS students enjoyed the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities, give back to their community, and see the value in developing positive relationships and citizenship. One Grade 11 student’s feedback was, “It was a tiring day but it was for a good cause. It made me feel good to help and say thank you to members of our community”.

They are already planning and looking forward to their next Community Day which will be on May 2, 2023. Parkland staff would like to thank their community partners and commend their students for a job very well done. Excellent work, Pacers!
