GNS: Dr Seuss Comes to Life on the Pacer Stage
Posted on:Parkland Composite High School (PCHS) students were very excited to be performing on the Pacer Stage once again. This year's musical was The Dr. Seuss Show, which was a combination of various Dr. Seuss books blended together to create a fun, energetic and silly performance perfect for any age group.
Morning, afternoon, and evening shows were performed between February 21-24th, with classes from Pine Grove, Niton, Mary Bergeron, and Westhaven entertained during the daytime school performances. The Dr. Seuss Show featured fun music and great costumes. As per the PCHS tradition, students were excited to share the stage with guest teacher performers including Mr. Kevin Dye, Ms. Lyssa Bencz, Mrs. Carmen Leggett, Mr. Art Koop, Mr. James Aldred, and former PCHS staff member Mr. Carl Tews, who was able to participate virtually.
The show was co-directed by the Senior Performing Arts students, who each had the responsibility of taking one scene and bringing it to life on stage. Grade 12 student, Ella O’Reilly-Davi-Digui, said, “Performing arts are an invaluable part of Parkland and one of my favourite parts. I had the chance to direct a scene this year and it was a fun learning experience. I'm grateful for the chance to have worked alongside so many welcoming and diverse people.”
Other students took part in the experience such as the PCHS Foods Department who provided complementary Dr. Seuss themed snacks during the evening intermissions, and the PCHS Art Department, who were instrumental in creating the fantastic sets that brought the magic of Dr. Seuss to life. Echo Basin Industries also helped to create the beautiful costumes. Educator Mrs. Danette Dickson directed, led, and guided PCHS students over the last few months to help them develop the vision needed for another successful PACERS production.
