GNS: Celebrating Holi!
Posted on:Cultural diversity is a valued aspect of Canadian society and GYPSD schools are encouraged to provide learning experiences whereby all students have opportunities to develop pride in their cultural heritage, self-esteem and understanding of Canada’s culture.
For example on March 8th, Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours, Festival of Spring, and Festival of Love, is one of Hinduism's most popular and significant festivals, and was celebrated in both Jasper and Edson schools. Holi is the festive day to end and rid oneself of past errors, to end conflicts by meeting others, a day to forget and forgive. It also marks the start of spring, an occasion for people to enjoy the changing seasons and make new friends.
Junior kindergarten students from the Roots and Wings program at École Jasper Elementary School added bright colours to the snow outside the school in the morning and bright-coloured chalk paint to their faces in the afternoon. Principal Bouchard was delighted to have his face painted by the three and four-year-olds!
Students at École Westhaven School in Edson in Ms. MacPhail’s class celebrated this colourful festival by tie dying t-shirts!
