GNS: GTHS Cheers on the Home Teams!
Posted on:Grand Trunk High School brought back the PEP this spring! Brought back by student request, a pep rally was held to celebrate their junior high basketball teams' success and to share their excitement for senior high basketball teams who were headed to zones. Mrs. Montreuil hyped up the crowd by introducing all of the rosters and the crowd cheered them all on. The school can't wait to continue this tradition with all of their other sports as the students and staff all had a great time showing their support.
Both senior high Grand Trunk teams headed to zones after the rally. The girls went to Edson and were on fire game one, advancing to the semi. They suffered a tough loss vs a provincially ranked team in the next game, and almost had an epic comeback in their last game, falling just short of a bronze medal. Great work ladies!
GTHS senior boys went on to Drayton Valley and gained momentum early on their first game with a victory. They were able to get a win versus the home school in the semi, and set up a rematch of last year's zone final against John Maland. The boys led by 20 at half time, but John Maland came back and were only down 6 points in the third. GT dug deep, eventually pulling away, winning 87-63.
The Grizzlies later departed for Peace River to represent the North Central Zone at provincials as the #9 seed. The Grizzlies wasted no time turning heads, as they had a huge 27 point win over the team ranked #8. This was the only upset of the first round, and set up a big game against the first ranked team. It was a back and fourth game the whole way, but the Grizzlies fell short. They ended up finishing as the #7 team in the province this year.
Great job everyone!
