GNS: World Teachers' Day
Posted on:Since October 5th, 1994, teachers around the globe have been recognized for their contribution to society on World Teachers’ Day. At Grande Yellowhead, we are proud to recognize these dedicated, innovative professionals who guide our children and youth to succeed in achieving their academic and personal goals from kindergarten to grade 12.
Teachers are committed professionals, becoming experts in their subject area and the stages of child development; they engage in ongoing professional development to ensure their competencies in a range of instructional approaches including differentiation for inclusion, assessment for learning, and lesson design. During the school year, teachers are constantly evolving their practice to ensure all students can engage with the curriculum and show growth. Not only do teachers ensure a welcoming and engaged classroom to guide students through the specific learning outcomes, but they also contribute to a whole-school community that encourages kindness, compassion, collaboration, and teamwork - lending their time and energy to prepare young minds for a brighter future that inspires purpose, hope, meaning, and belonging.
Effective teachers can profoundly affect their students' lives and vocation choices as they grow up by providing:
- mentorship
- nurturing healthy curiosity in learners
- creating meaningful learning experiences in and beyond the classroom
- leveraging technology to support learning
- researching new learning strategies, and
- mediating and liaising with various stakeholders about education matters.
At GYPSD, we proudly employ over 300 educators in a variety of roles in 17 schools, in and out
of the classroom, in five zones, and at central office.
