GNS: Running for Wellness at GTHS

Posted on:

On May 31st, Grand Trunk High School (GTHS) students were able to participate in a Fun Run at their school. The students have been working hard training during their lunch breaks once a week with the Wellness Navigator, Jenessa Mulgrew. Exercise enhances mood and self-esteem while decreasing stress tendencies/symptoms.  The event gave GTHS students a great opportunity to flourish within their school community.

The Alberta Medical Association (AMA) Youth Run Club (YRC) is a partnership program between the AMA and Ever Active Schools (EAS). It is a free, fun and flexible program aimed at increasing physical activity levels in children and youth across Alberta. They provide registered clubs with all of the necessary tools and resources to implement and maintain a successful run club, including: Runner and Coach handbooks; finisher prizes for all participants; free local workshops for coaches; running logs, and more. Students and staff had very positive feedback regarding the Fun Run despite fighting with the wind. Jenessa looks forward to hosting more Fun Runs at Grand Trunk in the future!
