GNS Hinton's Junior Firefighters
Posted on:
The Town of Hinton is pleased to announce the running of the Junior Firefighter Program again. Starting last month, the 40-hour program has a full group of 12 students in Grade 11 and 12 from Harry Collinge High School, and students that successfully participate can earn three (3) credits towards graduation.
Students learn about communications, team work, perseverance, deepening their physical and mental strengths as well as many life and safety skills through the hands-on program.
These students have now completed their fourth session and to date have trained on breathing apparatus, participated in an exercise in the burn building, and ran tools used for vehicle extrication.
The program has been made possible with collaboration between the Rotary Club (funding), GYPSD’s Wellness Navigator program (student coordination and facilitator hours), the Hinton Fire Rescue Team, and the many amazing volunteers who are graciously donating their space, equipment and time for our students.
