GNS 240930 September 30: National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

Posted on:

This year, students and staff acknowledged September 30th Truth and Reconciliation and National Day for Orange Shirt Day on Friday, September 27, 2024, as the Board of Trustees made Monday, September 30 a non-instructional day to allow students and school staff to participate in events taking place locally or regionally.

Division schools participated in many events, presentations, and performances that reflected on the past and taught the truth of residential schools, as well as honouring the survivors and children who never came home. Many students and staff wore orange and a number of schools throughout the Division hosted Orange Shirt Day activities including Harry Collinge High in Hinton - bringing all three GYPSD schools together to share in this important work. Thank you to everyone who took the time to recognize the history and impact of residential schools at the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation events.

We encourage everyone to take the time to participate in the many events happening throughout our communities to share in these important conversations as #everychildmatters.
