GNS: Building Connections

Posted on:

Evansview School is committed to building community and believes a strong community leads to increased learning because students feel welcome in a safe and secure environment. Part of the community building that takes place is the "Friday Picnic" in the gym.

Every Friday, all Evansview's students gather in the gym to have lunch with each other as a school, rather than eating in their individual classrooms. Principal Randall, Ms. Jones, Mrs. Riggs (BEST), and Trina Kwasnitza (Family School Liaison Counsellor) supervise all the students while the rest of the staff have the opportunity to enjoy lunch together in the staff room. After lunch, all students can play on either the Division I or II playgrounds when normally they would be separated.

Another yummy bonus is that the supervisors from the gym hand out popcorn that Mr. Randall makes in the morning. On hot days, the students might receive ice cream or frozen treats. After school on Fridays, Mr. Randall takes any leftover bags of popcorn out and hands them out to parents who are picking up their children. A win for all!
