GNS: High School Learning Pathways
Posted on:High school can be a little overwhelming for students entering grade 10 ... and more overwhelming for grade 12 students contemplating life after high school. But do not worry - get the 411!
Each of GYPSD's high schools works with students to ensure their schedule has the courses they need to meet the requirements for a high school diploma, and at the same time, addresses the course requirements to successfully transition into their next learning journey. Whether that journey includes a 1-year certificate, a 2-year diploma, a 3-year applied degree, a 4-year degree, an industry training program, or a career in the military or trades, our GYPSD students have access to the right information and many opportunities to explore their interests.
A fall staple across the province includes the annual post-secondary and career pathways tour. Each high school hosts the fair, ensuring our high school students can connect with organizational spokespersons to ask questions, get advice, and pick up important information pieces to share with their parents about possible careers.
Parents can support their soon-to-be graduates by familiarizing themselves with the various program requirements, competitive averages, and application deadlines, and communicating with their children's teachers or guidance counselors to ensure they are on track for their high school credits and their
next-step application requirements.
