GNS Hinton Schools Have Heart
Posted on:
One of the Division’s priorities is Community Engagement and encouraging our students to be good citizens, both in and out of the classroom. Various activities and events are held throughout the school year in focusing on deepening their understanding of what it means to support others and participate in ways to support their community.
For example, the student council at Ecole Mountain View School in Hinton organized a drive for their local Food Bank. Collections exceeded over 2,300 items - beating last year’s record! The students were also very appreciative in receiving a generous cash donation for their cause. Classes with the most items collected also enjoyed a pizza party or a free gym class!
In December, Crescent Valley School also hosted a drive for the Hinton Food Bank with a total weigh in of 1,385.8 pounds of food! As the school proudly noted on their social media page “That's as much as 1.15 Polar Bears, 1.2 Grand Pianos, or 3 Blue Whale Hearts (we've got heart!!!).”
Harry Collinge High School students and staff annually put together food hampers and gift bags for those in need for the holiday season. They raised almost $6,100 which included groceries, home goods, personal gifts, and toys. This brings their 11-year total to almost $70,000 thanks to their combined efforts!
