Grande Yellowhead Public School Division is proud to announce that Pyriel KelleyBeaverbones, a Grade 12 student from Harry Collinge High School in Hinton, was one of twelve students - selected from over 300 nominees across the Province - awarded an Honouring Spirit: Indigenous Award by the Alberta School Boards’ Association (ASBA) in Edmonton on Monday, April 14, 2025.
At the guidance of ASBA’s Indigenous Advisory Council members, star blankets were created for each student recipient. Each recipient is presented with an Honouring Spirit certificate containing an individually designed star blanket logo in the language of their family, community or Nation and wrapped in a star blanket made for them. An Honour Song is then rendered to complete the honouring ceremony.
Keyera has also been sponsoring this ASBA award for the last few years and provides a one-time $2,500 scholarship for each winner.
Congratulations, Pyriel on your well-deserved nomination and win!
