GNS - Staff Learn De-Escalating Strategies

Grande Yellowhead’s third priority is Teacher, Staff and Leadership Excellence and a strategic focus on professional development for staff is key in achieving that goal.

Last month, almost 50 participants from every zone - Lobstick, Edson, Hinton, Jasper and Grande Cache - were trained on verbal de-escalation techniques and personal strategies useful with students who are dysregulated. Participating staff included educational assistants, teachers, school administrators, and learning support teachers.

Michelle Downing, an Assistant Principal at the Dual Campus of Ecole Pine Grove and Parkland Composite High in Edson, taught the highly specialized session as she is a fully certified trainer in non-violence crisis intervention.
