Posted on:Last month, GYPSD students were busy modeling good citizenship as they participated in various Random Acts of Kindness and Pink Shirt Day activities. Sheldon Coates Elementary in Grande Cache held a food drive where classrooms were challenged to see which class would donate the most pounds of food. Grade 3 students donated their recess times to collect and weigh the food. Over the four days of the challenge, the school community donated 1,053 pounds of food for the Grande Cache Food Bank.
Ecole Pine Grove Middle School in Edson organized various Kindness Week activities including one where students completed a kindness card and a collage of the beautiful cards is proudly displayed in the school's front foyer. Jasper Junior/Senior High kept up safety protocols while embracing the spirit of Pink Shirt Day by handing out pink masks to students, and their Youth Community Helpers student group helped to create a BE KIND poster that celebrates our cultural diversity signs in 16 different languages saying “ BE KIND”. Students and staff at Grande Cache Community High shared kindness messages with each other for a chance to win some prizes, and students at Parkland Composite High in Edson are in a Pen Pal project with seniors at the local lodge. These are just some great examples of the thoughtful ways that GYPSD schools encourage our students to care about each other and their communities.
