CVS New Learning Commons

Students and staff at Crescent Valley School in Hinton are excited about their recent library renovations, along with a new name - it is now called the Learning Commons. A learning commons is a whole-school approach to building a participatory learning community: the physical and virtual collaborative learning hub of the school. Learning Commons' spaces emphasize creativity, collaboration, innovation and opportunities to enhance teaching and learning outcomes. A focus this year for student improvement is literacy skills: through focused instruction, the goal is that 40 per cent of students will achieve proficiency in reading accuracy and/or comprehension, as measured by the Divisional reading assessment benchmark by end of June 2021. What better way to assist with that goal and to encourage a love of lifelong reading than a welcoming and rich learning environment such as a modernized learning commons!
