GNS: Rock Tour 2023!

Rock Tour 2023 took students from Harry Collinge High School (HCHS) and Grand Trunk High School (GTHS) to perform for central Alberta school audiences. HCHS teacher Mr. Madsen took one band and GTHS teacher Mr. Watt took another, and they all performed with two bands from Thorhild Central School, from Aspen View Schools.

This year’s tour started off with a sneak mini-performance by GTHS Tour students for the GYPSD School Board at the Public Board Meeting on May 24, 2023, then bands from the three schools performed for Grasslands School and H.A. Kostash in Smoky Lake on Thursday. Friday was a performance in Redwater, then a final performance for Thorhild Central School.

Students on the tour learn how to set up and tear down a variety of music performance gear, learn about life on the road, and form extremely strong and long-lasting friendships with the students on the tour. It’s one of the few situations when students from different high schools get to collaborate on something, as opposed to competing against one another.

Our schools are extremely proud of their student performers, and look forward to another tour next year! Rock on!
