GNS: Math Skills Translates into Puppy Havens!
Posted on:Grade 9 Math students at Parkland Composite High School in Edson were very excited with their latest cumulative math project focused on calculating the surface areas of 3D objects.
The project allowed the students in Mrs. Downing's class to put their math skills in to a real life scenario by being challenged to design and construct 'puppy palaces'.
Students were tasked to sketch their design in 2D, and then create a cut list for the wood needed. They then had to pull it all together (and find where their calculations needed some tweaking) to construct their final palace.
Feedback from the students provided overwhelming confirmation that they were quickly able to see how math actually does translates into real life applications!
And the best part of the project included a visit from some puppies who checked out the new builds and gave their puppy approval!
