GNS: Wellness Navigators
Posted on:You will see a new group of positive role models in our high schools this year as part of the Division's new System Health and Wellness Priority and Mental Health in Schools Grant from Alberta Education - our team of Wellness Navigators, led by Tara Burdock.
Working alongside the Bringing Empowered Students Together (BEST) Team and Family School Liaison Counselors (FSLCs), the Wellness Navigator's role is to promote health and wellness by bringing
preventative universal programming to students. There is a Wellness Navigator located in each of the five high schools in the Division.
Wellness Navigators are responsible for delivering programming in classrooms, the community, and with small targeted groups. Topics and activities are geared to:
- leadership development
- self-advocacy
- health and wellness
- social-emotional learning
- boundaries & consent
- healthy relationships
- online safety
- mindfulness, and
- high school completion.
Navigators are also responsible for connecting with community agencies and running out-of-school programs/activities on non-school days, so expect to see them out and about in your community this year!
