GNS Enhancing Outdoor Learning at Fulham

Posted on:

Fulham Community School started its school year with an exciting new way to learn: in an outdoor classroom! Thanks to a generous donation from the Wild Sheep Foundation of Alberta, Fulham students are thoroughly enjoying their new space. Many of our Division schools have received community grants and support to incorporate an outdoor classroom as the benefits of promoting physical activity, sunlight exposure, and fresh air all contribute to improved overall health
for students. Additionally, the natural surroundings create a calming and rejuvenating atmosphere, reducing stress, enhancing focus, and enhancing an overall sense of well-being.

Local former student and carpenter, Werner Visko, was commissioned to build the beautiful gazebo space as well as the picnic tables inside of it. Fulham residents won’t miss the new addition painted in Fulham’s school colours of white and blue.

In June, the Foundation generously donated $20,000 to Fulham for its new Outdoor Education Program. The funds support the school’s commitment to fostering a healthy lifestyle for students. Along with the new outdoor classroom, plans include a large community garden and other projects to ensure a stronger and healthier connection to the outdoors for their students.
