GNS 241024: Terry Fox Run
Posted on:In September, students and staff across the Division honoured the legacy of Canadian Terry Fox. Students learned about the teenager who challenged himself to run across Canada to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. The Terry Fox Run is an annual non-competitive charity event held around the world to raise money for cancer research in commemoration of Terry, and his Marathon of Hope that started 44 years ago. #NoMatterWhat
Students at Evansview Elementary School in Evansburg were once again challenged to raise $1,750 or more with the chance to throw a pie at their principal and they raised over $2,000! Ecole Mountain View’s students from K to Grade 7 raised over $3,700 and walked or ran during their October 4th event. The top two fundraisers also got the chance to throw a pie at a teacher - check out their Facebook page to see who was the ‘lucky’ staff volunteer! Mary Bergeron also surpassed their $1,200 fundraising goal with raising over $4,400.
These are just a few examples of GYPSD students, staff and families going the distance for cancer research. Thank you!
