GNS HCHS Students 'Putting' Their Skills to Good Use
Posted on:
Harry Collinge High School (HCHS) students in shop class really went all out in designing and building a mini golf course.
42 Grade 9 students spent two and a half months last semester working in a number of different groups starting with the design of each hole with unique obstacles and features. Once the design was completed, it was time to roll up their sleeves and bring out the carpentry tools to put their vision to life. All the materials for this project were generously donated by local businesses in Hinton. Flor-Lay Interiors donated over 500 square feet of carpet, Hinton Wood Products donated all the plywood and lumber, Home Hardware contributed paint and painting supplies, and the Hinton Golf Club donated some putters to the excited students.
The project was inspired when their teacher, Mr. Jared Madsen, played the mini golf course at the Jurassic Forest this past summer with his family.
The completed portable course has been set up in one of the extra classrooms at the school.
