GNS - Scammers Beware!
Posted on:École Pine Grove (PGMS) students in Mrs. K-T's Language Arts and Health class finished their advertising unit with a "Create a Product & Ad Campaign" project. The project aimed for students to show their understanding of false or misleading marketing practices.
During the unit, students learned about persuasive techniques that advertisers use in different types of ads such as TV, print, and online. This included use of colour, logos, slogans, and techniques such as humor, transference, and bribery. Students must learn to recognize how companies may try to manipulate consumers into buying their goods or services: a valuable lesson so that they can make positive and informed choices for themselves.
To demonstrate their understanding of the unit outcomes, students created a product and then designed a print ad and built a mockup/model of it. Finally, they did a "Gallery Walk" to analyze each other's ads to see their persuasiveness.
Other PGMS students and staff were also invited to check out their projects and share their feedback on how persuasive, or not, their projects were using an analysis handout.
