GYPSD Makerspace

Posted on:

Grande Yellowhead Public School Division's provides a unique educational space for students to enjoy at the Hinton Learning Services Centre. This room, also known as makerspaces, is designed to encourage creativity and exploration tools and components, allowing students to enter with an idea and leave with a completed project by working together to learn, collaborate, and share. Teachers are encouraged to utilize the space for these great hands-on activities. For example, on October 24, 2019, Ms. Jones’ Grade 2 students from Crescent Valley School in Hinton spent some time at the GYPSD's Makerspace with hands-on learning to complement their science unit on hot and cold temperatures. The students were immersed in the iterative process by designing and testing their models of a product that would
keep an ice cube frozen for as long as possible, using a variety of recycled materials.
