GNS: Niton Students Shine at Drama Festival
Posted on:GYPSD was well represented at the Zone 2 West Drama Festivals in Westlock this year. Parkland Composite High School (PCHS) sent their talented drama students to the senior festival in mid-April and Niton Central (NCS), PCHS and Ecole Pine Grove Middle School (PGMS) all sent plays to the junior festival on April 25 and 26, 2024.
The Festival allows students to perform a one-act play that they have spent the previous weeks, or months, preparing for at their schools. The play is then performed for two (2) professional adjudicators and students from other schools throughout the zone. The adjudicators observe, provide feedback, and choose awards based on the performances.
Niton Central School had 24 of their Grade 6-9 students represent the school in their rendition of When Bad Things Happen to Good Actors, a hilarious play in which the attempt to perform the Wizard of Oz is met with every imaginable problem including missing actors, forgotten lines, dinosaur interruptions, and a rebellion of the stage hands! NCS students put on an excellent performance and several were recognized with honorable mention awards: Serena Dunsdon-Grant
for Toto and Christena Arding as the Lion. Cole Moman and Dustin Defoor were recognized for their work as a technical team.
Niton Central was also proudly recognized for the high level of participation that
their small school had in the drama program.
