GNS: No Stone Left Alone

Posted on:

On November 4, 2024, Crescent Valley School in Hinton participated for the first time in the No Stone Left Alone Program. The Grade 6 students travelled to the Brule Cemetery, and along with Trustee Shirley Caputo, parents, and Brule residents, honoured two World War I veterans at their graves. Both veterans died a year apart from drowning (1922 and 1923). This ceremony was a powerful way for the students to connect to the past, recognizing the sacrifices of the fallen in the week leading up to Remembrance Day.

As one student said, "Being out in the cemetery and learning  the names of the (deceased) made it more real." Another student pointed out, "As the two minutes of silence started, the wind picked up and it started to snow. It was like nature was acknowledging them as well."

This experience was profound for all involved and several long-time residents of Brule reached out to thank our school for taking the time to honour our deceased Yellowhead County veterans.
