2019/2020 Supt. Youth Council

Posted on:

On December 11th, 2019, Superintendent Lewis welcomed the 30 student members and six teacher advisors from the third annual Superintendent's Youth Council to the Division office in Edson for their first face-to-face meeting of the 2019/2020 school year. The Council proudly includes student representatives from all of the Division's high schools and outreach centres.

The Superintendent's Youth Council worked in groups and focused their discussions around three questions during the morning session:

  • What does it mean to be an educated person?
  • What skills do employers need from 21st-century workers?
  • How do we support student learning in the future?

SYC participants then spent the afternoon with Superintendent Lewis and GYPSD's Edson Trustee and Board Vice-Chair, J. Zaporosky. The conversations centered around community-specific inquiries, current decisions about public education, and questions about effective leadership. The SYC is an excellent opportunity for youth to share their voice about their education with school and community stakeholders at various workshops and engagement sessions throughout the school year.
